No Docs To Go for webOS / DataViz bought by RIM?

DataViz has announced that there will be no version of Docs To Go for webOS. Bell Mobility to launch BlackBerry Torch too

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 might be exclusive to one carrier in the U.S., but that hasn’t stopped the floozy of a handset from making the rounds in Canada. Bell Mobility recently announced that they too will be carrying the BlackBerry Torch slider — which we knew – beginning on September 24th. The device will retail for $199 on a 3-year contract and $599 off-contract. This brings the total number of Canadian networks launching the 9800 on September 24 to four: Bell, Rogers, Telus, and Virgin Mobile. StopMail for BlackBerry: you want this app

StopMail for the BlackBerry platform could save you from being crushed under the weight of emails coming into your inbox. It’s cheap and I am amazed no one has thought of it before now. Available here.

Allows you to disable an email account without having to actually remove the account from the device (Helpful for work accounts).
Keeps emails from playing catch-up when the account is re-enabled.
Allows you to schedule a blocking period for each account.
Keeps the block settings across device reboots as long as it is enabled.
Saves the last 20 emails deleted by the app, since last reboot, so they can be restored.
In app help menu.

Skype updates Android app for Verizon users, lets you keep the WiFi on

Well, it looks like you still won't be able to actually make calls over WiFi, but Verizon Android users can now at least keep their WiFi connection active while using Skype Mobile -- something that was curiously not possible before. That's just one of the improvements in the latest version of the app (also updated for BlackBerry), which also includes features like incoming caller ID, support for copy and paste and emoticons in IM conversations, and the ability to automatically set your location as your mood message.

Verizon makes it official: prepaid smartphone plans, sans contract

It really wasn’t all that long ago (i.e. yesterday) that we were talking about the possibility of Verizon offering prepaid plans for the Pre Plus, Pixi Plus, and other smartphones. Instead of spinning off a new sub-brand (ala Sprint and Boost Mobile), Verizon’s leveraging their own brand name and phones to offer prepaid contract-free wares, and now they’re adding smartphones to the mix.

The list of phones is by no means exhaustive, but it is comprehensive. In addition to Verizon’s webOS offerings, customers can also pick up their entire Android line-up and a whole slew of BlackBerry smartphones and several multimedia feature phones. All of these phones are eligible for a $30-a-month unlimited data pack (multimedia phones can opt for a $10 for 25MB (really) data pack) to be added onto one of Verizon’s already-existing pre-paid options. continue reading »»»
