2.1

Yesterday it was Corsair, today it's the turn of Antec to step into the world of PC audio components. Best known for building cases and power supplies, the company's aiming to make a splash in this unexplored pool with its all-new soundscience brand and first product, the rockus 3D|2.1 speakers. We're guessing capital letters weren't high on the priority list here, with Antec instead opting to focus on delivering "immersive 3D soundscapes," the supposed aural equivalent of three-dimensional visuals. Beyond the marketing exaggerations, you'll find anodized aluminum satellite speakers, both digital and analog input options, and that cute little control pod for adjusting volume and toggling between stereo and Antec's proprietary 3Dsst mode.
Remeber the Motorola i1? Moto has just added its second rugged(ish) Android handset in the 3.7-inch Defy. It's dust-, scratch-, impact-, and water-resistant. It matches up to the IP67 durability spec and is expected in Europe in Q4 2010.

When we talked to Sony Ericsson for the Xperia X10 for AT&T review, reps informed us that the phone is upgradeable but no further information could be provided. Now, we can't say if this latest bit is global or just for those across the pond, but the official Twitter account of SE's UK arm wrote today that Android 2.1 is "due for release before the end of September this year." Certainly a step up from the Q4 2010 time frame we heard previously, but again, we've no clue if this applies to the US as well -- we've messaged a stateside rep and will let you know what we hear. A blessing for some X10 family owners, just a cherry on top for others.

Dell Streak on O2 to receive 2.1 on September 1st?

The Dell Streak on the mobile network O2 in the UK reportedly will receive Android 2.1 (Eclair) on Wednesday, Sept. 1. This will bring new features to the device currently running Android 1.6, including:

  • 720p video recording
  • Live wallpapers
  • Multitouch
  • Multiple Exchange email support

No word yet on when AT&T owners can expect an update, but its good that Dell's updating the device to recent OS' instead of allowing it to linger on Android 1.6. [The Really Mobile Project via intomobile]
